This article covers new product enhancements included in our November 22, 2024 release of Version 7.21.
Principal Claim Number
You can now specify a Principal Claim Number on Workers' Compensation case files for billing and reporting purposes. When entering or editing injury details on a case file, you can now specify a main carrier claim number to streamline case identifying information when creating invoices or LEDES exports. Simply check the box next to the Carrier Claim Number field when editing the injury that should be marked as the main injury for a case file.
Once you click "Save", the Principal Claim Number will be marked on the specified injury and displayed in the Case Info section on the Case Details tab.
You can use the Principal Claim Number information for billing purposes by including it in the Reference/Memo section on invoices instead of displaying all claim numbers for the case. By navigating to Tools & Settings > Accounting Setup > Invoicing, your firm's preferences can be adjusted to display all claim numbers, the Principal Claim Number only, or no claim numbers.
The Principal Claim Number can also be used in LEDES exports as the CLIENT_MATTER_ID. No more editing your LEDES exports to delete extra claim numbers when working with clients that only need one claim number to track cases! Like all LEDES export options, the preference to use only the Principal Claim Number instead of all claim numbers can be set at the billing contact level or the case file level. Simply navigate to the LEDES Data Sources of the billing setup for a contact or case and select the appropriate option.
The Principal Claim Number on cases can also be used for internal tracking purposes. The following reports now include the option to include this information in the report output:
- Cases List with Injury Detail
- Cases List with Injury Detail - Defense
By checking this report option, an additional column in the report output will display the Principal Claim Number for each case in the report if that information has been set.
